Just another day at the office....

Today was a busy day. To anyone who's ever been curious at to what a typical day in inner-city ministry is like, read on... Here are a few examples of the craziness occuring even right now.

A dangerous man who "pushed" someone at Bethlehem Baptist came in and wouldn't leave. We're not allowed to serve him, so he just sat there and gave the death stare to anyone who passed by. We finally got him out by giving him $1.25 for the bus.

Three ladies from Chicago came in. One had come by for a funeral. We offer transportation to and from funerals anywhere in the continental USA. She, however, left the obit at home and couldn't remember the mortuary's name or address, so we couldn't verify it. We offered to give her transportation home to get the obit, so we could verify and give her her bus ticket back to Chicago, but she got mad and said "this ain't right" and left.

One lady came in for food shelf. While waiting her turn, she kept telling people that they were "the sons of the devil" and "the devil's child".

We got a call saying that Italy wanted to donate some cookies to us.
(mmmmm...cookies)

The assistant director came in to tell us that all of our left-over dates from Isreal were being donated to a pig farm up north. (yuck...dates)

A lady we've helped from before called from prision for us to pick her up, which we couldn't do.

Another lady wanted to beat up a different lady, but chose not to. You see, they both used to live in an apartment building where a drug ring was also occuring. The second lady narced on them, and got to keep her apartment. The first lady chose to keep quiet, and was evicted.

So, all in all we helped thirty seven people with food shelf (as long as I've been here I've never seen it above thirty in one day), several with hygiene help, several with transportation, some with rental assistance, a few with water bill help, and one person accepted Christ. Not a bad day so far.
