Sand Statue

There once was a beautiful stone sculputre. This sculputre had a solid foundation, made from the hardest of stone. This was particularily good, because the statue was on a beach. Sand continually blew in the breeze as the waves crashed nearby on the shore. Without her solid foundation, she would have surely been crumpled by the elements and washed away long ago. But she has stood for years now, anchored in the Rock.

A long time ago, this beautiful sculpture decided that maybe she was not what she should be. Maybe there were better things to be that the way she had been formed. So she took the wet sand around her and packed it onto herself, forming something new. She found this to be very useful, as she could design and redesign herself in any way she wanted. She rejoiced as she could change to fit the trends around her; change to fit her needs and her mood.

After a while, it became increasingly more and more difficult to remove the older sand. It became hopelessly stuck to her - it had been there for so long that she could not just brush it off anymore. So, she just kept it and piled more and more on top of herself. After a while, she couldn't remember what she had originally looked like. She couldn't remember what she had added to herself and what had originally been there.

One day, she decided that she wasn't happy with all of the changes. They had just not worked out like she'd hoped they would. All of the things that she thought would make her happy didn't. She wanted to rest from the pressure of changing to fit the standards of the day. She wanted to rest from the heavy weight she was carrying.

But she could not do it by herself. She tried to carve away the sand that she'd added, and some of it did come off. However, she just could not scrape hard enough to get at the sand that had been stuck to her for years, changing the way she was intended to be. And she desperately wanted to get back to what she intended to be. She wanted to be free.

She knew that what she needed. One big wave was all it would take. She didn't even have to do too much - just be available for the next big wave to hit. It would wash away all of the sand and leave her gleaming in the sunlight in her natural form. It would hurt, though. It would be painful to have all that sand suddenly stripped away from her. But it would also be a relief to have the weight lifted off of her.

She knew that she was anchored in the Rock, her Rock. She knew that even though the wave would hit her strong, and hurt, she wouldn't get washed away with it. She knew she could withstand it because she always had her solid foundation with her. It would protect her from the coming wave.

So she turned... She waited... She could see it coming...

Splash!

The wave came and washed away the sand. When she looked down, she could see the shape she had been intended to have. She remembered it and rejoiced in it. That was what she was created for. And she lived in that from that day forward. She was free in her intended form, anchored in her solid Rock foundation.
